Things to do in Imperial Treasury
The Imperial Treasury in the Hofburg is one of the most important sights in Vienna. It displays parts of the former collections of the House of Habsburg-Lothringen with the highest dynastic or religious significance, such as the crown of the Holy Roman Empire and the Austrian imperial crown. Also on display are legendary treasures such as a giant narwhal tooth that was thought to be a unicorn and an antique agate bowl linked to the Holy Grail.
The Imperial Treasury is divided into two collections, the Secular and the Ecclesiastical Treasury. The Secular Treasury exhibits insignia and jewels of the Holy Roman Empire including the Imperial Crown and the Holy Lance. The Ecclesiastical Treasury displays objects from the medieval cult of relics, from Habsburg Catholicism at the time of the Counter-Reformation and from Austrian popular beliefs. This unique collection makes the Imperial Treasury in Vienna the most important treasury in the world.
