Att göra – Schonbrunn slott
Från jakten på den heliga romerska kejsaren Maximilian II till Habsburgs påkostade sommarresidens har Schönbrunn-palatset en rik historia som sträcker sig över 300 år. Idag är det en berömd symbol för Wien och stadens främsta attraktion, sedan 1996 har detta överdådiga barockpalats listats som ett UNESCO världsarv.
Av de 1441 rummen är 40 för närvarande öppna för allmänheten och visar samlingar från utsmyckade salonger till rokoko-stater och kejsare Franz Joseph och fru kejsarinnan Elizabeth (aka Sisi). Beundra de extravaganta interiörerna som har förändrats lite sedan kejsarinnan Maria Theresas regeringstid och missa inte historiska rum som Spegelsalen, där sex år gamla Mozart uppträdde för kejsarinnan 1762.
Komplexet är också omgivet av enorma trädgårdar som är väl värda en promenad. Slottet som är öppet för allmänheten sedan 1779, inrymmer en rad attraktioner, inklusive Orangerie, världens äldsta djurpark, den härliga kullen Gloriette och de något missvisande namngivna romerska ruinerna (det är en trädgårdsmark). Medan ett besök i parken är gratis kräver individuella attraktioner entrébiljetter. Slottet tenderar också att bli överfull under sommaren så det är klokt att köpa biljetter online i förväg.
