Det stora egyptiska museet i staden Giza är kronjuvelen i Egyptens långa och mytomspunna förflutna och har en speciell plats i både egyptiernas och turisternas hjärtan. När du kliver in i de storslagna salarna känns det som att du kliver tillbaka i tiden på en uppslukande resa genom årtusenden av historia, kultur och tradition. Museet är en skattkammare av artefakter som berättar historien om denna forntida civilisation, från höga statyer av faraoner till komplicerat utformade smycken som en gång bars av drottningar.
Sedan har vi själva byggnaden. Det är ett modernt underverk som har utformats för att återspegla den egyptiska arkitekturens glamour. Inbäddad i den livliga stadsbilden är det en lugn tillflyktsort som erbjuder panoramautsikt över pyramiderna i Giza, en syn som du definitivt måste ha på din semesterlista. Du hittar också den ikoniska sfinxen och en massa andra ikoniska sevärdheter inom ett par kilometer från museet.
På insidan möts du av enorma, elegant inredda salar fyllda med ovärderliga reliker från olika tidsepoker. Stjärnan i showen är utan tvekan Tutankhamun-samlingen, med sina gyllene vagnar och mystiska dödsmask - det är ett monument över pojkkungens korta men betydelsefulla regeringstid.

“I had a message the day before saying that the grand museum and King tut show wasn't available it would be the old museum and pyramids only. We were quite upset as we paid a lot to see the new museum and its not even open yet. Our guide was lovely very knowledgeable and kept us safe. A very long day overall we did have the option to pay an extra £10 each on the day for a short nile cruise which was very nice.”
