Located in Dresden's historic center, Dresden Castle (Residenzschloss) is the oldest building of the city home to impressive art collections and exhibitions.

After being destroyed in 1945, the castle has been fully restored to its former splendour and the beautiful architecture of the building dominates the city. Visitors can even climb up the Hausmann Tower during certain months of the year for stunning panoramas over the city.

If art is your passion, Dresden’s Kupferstich-Kabinett (Collection of Prints, Drawings and Photographs) will take your breath away! This prominent art museum holds world-famous drawings and prints by Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Picasso and more!

Step back in time wandering around other main collections including The Green Vault and the New Green Vault that exhibit treasures from around Europe including historic jewels and other lavish objects. The Coin Cabinet will show you historic coins, medals, stamps and more. You can even see a coin over 2,500 years old!

The Giant Hall of Armoury is not to be missed with over 13,000 richly decorated armor, swords and gear. Some other attractions behind the palace’s walls include the Royal Parade Rooms, the Renaissance Wing, the Turkish Chamber and art library.

Another highlight of the castle is the Procession of Princes mural in the Stable Courtyard that tells the story of Dresden’s history. Admire this 102-meter long piece of art made from 25,000 painted tiles.
