Op deze familietocht naar de dierentuin van Pafos en de Blue Lagoon staat je een wilde tijd te wachten. Begin met een ochtend waarin je grote en kleine wezens van over de hele wereld ziet voordat je 's middags een opwindende boottocht maakt. Alexia, een van onze deskundige lokale gidsen, zegt: "De dierentuin is een mooie en veilige omgeving in het hart van bananenplantages. En op de Blue Lagoon boottocht, duik je het exotische gedeelte van de Middellandse Zee in om te zwemmen, met of zonder snorkel op je hoofd. Of je werkt aan je kleurtje aan boord."

Je begint de dag al goed in de dierentuin van Pafos, waar je alle tijd hebt om in het park rond te dwalen. Er zijn meer dan 1.200 dieren, waaronder apen, tijgers en reptielen. Zorg ervoor dat je de altijd populaire papegaaienshow ziet. Je ligt in een deuk om deze brutale vogels. En de lunch in het Flamingo Restaurant van de dierentuin krijg je erbij. Met een koele eetruimte op de veranda, een klei-oven en een chef-kok die zijn gerechten bereidt met streekingrediënten, is dit een attractie op zich.

Vervolgens stap je in de haven van Latchi aan boord voor een boottocht naar de Blue Lagoon. Van hieruit vaar je de open zee op, over het glinsterende water naar de Blue Lagoon. Hier gooit de kapitein het anker uit, zodat je van de omgeving kunt genieten. Duik het water in, snorkel of blijf gewoon op het dek om te zonnebaden – de keuze is aan jou. Er zijn veel boottochten naar de Blue Lagoon, maar er is geen enkele andere tour waarin je het combineert met de dierentuin van Pafos voor een geweldige dag uit met de hele familie.

The bus journey was very long and you didn’t get much time at the zoo. What we saw of the zoo was lovely. However the blue lagoon was beautiful!

The coach was 40 minutes late to pick us up and there was no shade for us to stand in. The zoo was pleasant enough although we felt very sorry for the lone elephant. The cages which some of the larger birds were in seemed to be quite small leaving them very little room. There are no giraffes at the zoo. But the parrot show was good and the lunch was very nice. Swimming in the blue lagoon was great but getting changed before and after on a boat full of people was absolutely chaotic.

Caledonia Waterfalls tour with hike and Cypriot lunch

The lush, cool forest that carpets the Troodos Mountains is an ideal escape near Paphos. A perfect contrast to the beach, you'll journey along a scenic route into the hills, where your destination is the village of Platres. Here, you'll set off on a 3km hike along the stream to the Caledonia Falls, followed by a traditional lunch at Psilo Dendro restaurant. Andri, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘You'll enjoy the journey as much as the destination on this hike, which follows and criss-crosses a stream over a series of little bridges all the way to the waterfall.'We'll get the tour started on a refreshing note with a stop at Kolossi Fruit Garden. Here you'll have the chance to try some fresh lemonade and buy fruit before continuing further into the mountains to the pretty hilltop village of Platres. This is the starting point for the nature trail, which traces the bubbling Kryos Potamos stream through the trees. You'll be glad of sturdy footwear as you head along the scenic trail, which is quite uneven in places with some rocks, roots and rivulets to keep it interesting.It's a forest walk in dappled shade, leading through a variety of gnarly trees including pines and strawberry trees. Once you reach the Caledonia Falls, you'll be able to take a break - and have a paddle if you wish - at the shaded freshwater pool, then continue to the famous Psilo Dendro restaurant with its very own trout farm. The interior is richly decorated, and you won't be able to keep your eyes off the icons and frescoes. You'll hear the legend of why its most famous icon, ‘the Golden Girl', remains half-hidden. And you'll also have some free time to wander around the grounds and enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains.We'll then visit Throni Hill and the elaborate tomb of Archbishop Makarios III. On this adults-only tour, you'll see where a legend was born, visit the ruins of Kourion, venture to the village of Omodos and cap off the day with a wine tasting. I love dropping into one of the cafés and seeing locals have philosophical discussions, political arguments and a bit of gossip.'
