‘Left', ‘right', ‘get down' – no, not an aggressive gym instructor but what you'll hear as you make your way down the River Tenorio rapids. This whitewater rafting tour is Costa Rica at its best – action and adventure in the wild.

After driving to the heart of Guanacaste, you'll be given a safety briefing before donning a helmet and life vest. You'll then raft through the rainforest, so keep an eye out for wildlife such as iguanas, monkeys and tropical birds. Costa Rica is rated as one of the best spots in the world for whitewater rafting, and there's a reason why – category 3 and 4 rapids, set against a lush tropical backdrop.

Your world-champion guide will steer you through the rapids and over the falls as you navigate the 13km route. After you've dried off, you'll end the tour with a spot of lunch.

You'll have plenty of time to fill your phone before starting the return journey back to your accommodation.
