1200-luvulla rakennettu Hofburgin palatsi oli alun perin keskiaikainen linnoitus, ja se laajeni vuosisatojen kuluessa kauniiksi linnaksi, jonka tunnemme nykyään: Itävallan kulttuurin ja kuninkaallisten symboliksi. Linnan uusin osa lisättiin 1900-luvun alussa, ja ainoa jäljellä oleva keskiajalta peräisin oleva osa on kappeli eli Burgkapelle. Itse palatsissa asui joitakin Euroopan vaikutusvaltaisimpia hallitsijoita, kuten Habsburgien dynastia, ja se laajeni koko ajan Itävallan ja Unkarin valtakunnan vallan myötä. Hofburgin palatsi on ollut vuosisatojen ajan Wienin sydämessä sijaitseva keisarillinen palatsi ja pääasiallinen talviasunto, kun taas Schönbrunnin palatsi on kesäasunto. Nykyään se on Itävallan presidentin virallinen toimipaikka ja ikoninen arkkitehtoninen maamerkki, jota kenenkään matkailijan ei pitäisi jättää väliin.

“It would have been helpful to make the experience more relevant to TUI, for instance being informed that the pick up point for the bus a was 3 min walk from the boat NOT the city centre wasting a lot of time, Queuing and boarding was very disorganised, both in the city centre for the main bus and the road train tour of the palace grounds. The bus itself was clean and the tour commentary was clear and informative, but overall a lot of room for improvement of the experience.”
