Rooman Pantheon on ajaton rakennus, jolla on ikivanha historia ja jonka Michelangelo määritteli jumalalliseksi teokseksi. Se rakennettiin alun perin Augustuksen aikana, ja se on omistettu kaikille antiikin Rooman aikana palvotuille jumalille.
Keisari Adrianon vuosina 118-128 jKr. uudelleenrakentama rakennus on tyypillinen esimerkki klassisesta arkkitehtuurista: geometrian laskelmallisuus ja linjojen täydellinen harmonia tekevät siitä vakaan ja tasapainoisen.
Kristinuskon tulon myötä Pantheon muutettiin kristilliseksi basilikaksi 600-luvun alussa nimellä Santa Maria della Rotonda. Tämän muuntamisen ansiosta se on säilynyt vuosisatojen ajan koskemattomana, eikä siihen ole kohdistunut ryöstelyitä tai hyökkäyksiä.
Nykyään Pantheonilla on paitsi pienen basilikan asema, se on myös Italian kahden ensimmäisen kuninkaan hautapaikka: Vittorio Emanuele II:n ja hänen poikansa Umberto I:n. Koska se tunnetaan yhtenä maailman vanhimmista kirkoista ja ensimmäisten kuninkaiden hautapaikkana, vierailu tässä muinaisessa roomalaisessa temppelissä on ehdottomasti pakollinen jokaiselle Ikuisessa kaupungissa vierailevalle.

Pantheon on avoinna yleisölle maanantaista lauantaihin klo 9.00-19.30 ja sunnuntaina klo 9.00-18.00.
