Buckinghamin palatsi on toiminut Britannian hallitsijoiden virallisena asuinpaikkana Lontoossa vuodesta 1837 lähtien, ja nykyään se on monarkin hallinnollinen päämaja. Siitä lähtien palatsi on usein ollut valtiollisten tilaisuuksien keskipisteenä. Se selvisi myös useista pommituksista toisessa maailmansodassa, vaikka palatsin kappeli tuhoutuikin. Nykyään se symboloi Britannian kuninkaallisia ja heidän horjumatonta omistautumistaan Yhdistyneen kuningaskunnan kansalaisille.
