Crete's rugged mountaintops, sun‑kissed plains and sleepy little villages take centre stage on this off‑road 4x4 adventure. You'll bounce between a winery, an ancient church, an olive oil mill and even a honey factory, getting a real taste of local life along the way. Katerina, one of our expert local guides, says, “the winery owner in Klados welcomes you in personally before showing you around and guiding a tasting session. You'll also learn why Cretan olive oil is such a staple of our cuisine – and why Cretans tend to live longer than the average Greek.”

Your day starts with a 4x4 drive out to a family‑run winery in Klados. Here, you'll get the lowdown on indigenous grape varieties that thrive in Crete's climate and soil, giving the wines their unique character. After your tasting, you'll roll into the village of Garazo for a peek at everyday local life and a wander through a folk museum to check out traditional crafts and skills that have been preserved across generations. Then, it's back off‑road towards Halepa Monastery for a quick stop to soak up the peaceful surroundings and snap a few photos from the hilltop viewpoint.

Your adventure continues at the Melidoni Olive Oil Mill, where you'll dive into the full journey of extra virgin olive oil – from ancient harvesting traditions to modern techniques, complete with tastings of the island's famous ‘liquid gold.' After that, it's on to a honey factory in Apithano to learn all about beekeeping and sample a selection of delicious local honeys. To wrap up the day, you'll head to the heart of Melidoni Village to tuck into a spread of classic Cretan platters at cosy taverna before heading back.

Sebastian der Reiseleiter vom Jeep grosse Klasse, hat viel erklärt viel erzählt, war lustig, hat auf unsere Sicherheit geachtet. Bei den einzelnen Stationen wurde alles gut erklärt und es gab immer Raki, welcher ein geschmachserlebnis war unbekannterwreise, würden wir noch mal mit machen, aber nur mit Sebastian ??

Super schöne Landrover Tour. Sebastian holte uns rechtzeitig vom Hotel ab und dann ging es schon in die schöne Bergregion zur Weinverkostung und zu einem Ölproduzenten. Dank seiner guten Deutschkenntnissen haben wir viel über Land und Leute erfahren. Das Mittagsmenü war der krönende Abschluss. Wir können diesen Ausflug nur weiterempfehlen. Danke Sebastian und Team.

Im Land Rover bei Hitze mit sieben Personen zu eng. Der Fahrer war sehr gut, hat informativ und auch sehr lustig erzählt. Bei allen Anlaufpunkten kamen immer 3-4 Fahrzeuge zusammen, so dass vom Kleingruppe keine Rede mehr sein kann. Die Weinprobe war äußerst lieblos gestaltet. Verkostet wurden drei Weine jeweils in Fingerhutmenge. Information gab es von einem Fahrer abgelesen vom Blatt. Das das Mittagessen in einer Taverne, genauso lieblos. Nur Wasser dabei, alles andere zu bezahlen...

Das Erlebnis war toll. Sebastian hat uns viel über die Insel erzählt während der fahrt. Die Weinverkostung war etwas mikrig. Wir durften nur 3 Weine probieren und diese waren alle trocken. Auch war 10 Uhr zu früh für das. Die Städchen welche wir besucht haben waren traumhaft. Auch das Essen. Die Olivefabrika war auch weniger toll. Die Tour bei Wein und Oliven wurde von den Fahrer gemacht und es war dort wenig los. Aber die Tour lohnt sich trotzdem sehr!!!!

Der Tour Guide Sebastian war echt super!!! Die Weinführung und Verkostung war nicht so toll oder interessant oder informativ. Gerne hätte wir noch 1 oder 2 andere Weine verkostet es gab 1x Weißwein, 1x Rosé und 1x Rotwein alle sehr trocken) … aber auch um 10 h zu Beginn der Tour nicht so toll. Alles andere der Tour war mega schön. Das alte und das neue Dorf … die Oliven Führung war interessant und nett verköstigt. Das Mittagessen war sehr lecker. Das Dorf war mit seinen Tavernen gemütlich

You'll spend the day watching history come to life as you tour the grounds of the palace, before crossing over to Heraklion for some free time in the capital.Once the hub of Crete's Minoan civilisation, Knossos Palace sits in the heart of what's considered to be Europe's oldest settlement. You'll enjoy a guided tour around its treasures, stopping by the throne room, royal apartments, frescoes and more. And with fast-track access, there's no waiting around in queues.It's then time to head to Heraklion, the island's capital. See the 17th-century Morozini Lions fountain and the 400-year-old Venetian Loggia – which is still the city hall – during a short guided walk around the city centre. Off-road adventures don't get more fun than this. On this evening tour, you'll buckle up for a thrilling ride through the Cretan mountains, taking in villages, landmarks and more. What's more, there'll be a traditional dinner at a local taverna waiting for you. Vaggelis, one of our local expert guides, says 'Lassithi Plateau was said to be the birthplace of Zeus, the king of the Greek gods. According to legend, his mother, Rhea, hid the newborn in a cave on the plateau to protect him from being devoured by his father. It's one of the best places in Crete to grab a bird's-eye view of the north'.It all starts the moment you hop aboard your 4x4 and head for the mountains. You'll stop by Aposelemis basin reservoir and ancient Roman aqueducts, before following the path to the village of Kastamonitsa. Here, you'll be greeted with a tipple of fiery raki. Vaggelis says, 'After the grape harvest, the leftover skins, seeds, and stems are fermented and then distilled to produce raki, a tradition that many Cretan families proudly maintain'.You'll continue along the Minoan path, taking in the wildlife and scenery while learning all about local mythology and history. You'll stop for a glass of sweet, sparkling wine and admire Lassithi Plateau, as well as its iconic views. And once you've built up an appetite, you'll head to a local taverna for a traditional Cretan-style dinner with unlimited wine. Finally, as night draws in, you'll head back down the mountain roads, taking in the moonlit coastline and the twinkling lights of towns and villages.

Crete is the cradle of wine history, with its authentic country life and indigenous grape varieties dating far back to the ancient Minoans. Veta, one of our local guides, says ‘What I like most about showing visitors around on this tour is that they meet the local producers and farmers and hear their stories.' Over the course of the day, you'll taste locally produced olive oil, enjoy a typical Cretan lunch, and sip on regional whites and reds at an award-winning winery.We'll begin our culinary adventure at the Kriti Allios olive oil producer, set among olive groves to the south of Heraklion. Here we'll tour the facilities and surrounding groves before a Cretan olive oil tasting session. ‘Olive oil has been a Cretan staple since Minoan times. Archeologists have found evidence that the Minoans, the earliest Cretan civilization, used olive oil for rituals, medicine and culinary purposes,' adds Veta. After the tasting, there's a tasty farm fresh lunch to tuck into with traditional local delicacies.Next, we'll pay a visit to family-run Titakis Winery. Its wines have won multiple awards in the past decade, especially the Kotsifali reds. After a tour of the estate and the wine production areas, you'll taste four different wines, accompanied by breadsticks and olives. Veta says, ‘There's always a bottle on the dinner table in Cretan homes – and often it'll be from this winery. The Titakis family has a strong focus on the production of rare local varieties.'

Heraklion and Knossos Palace Tour with free time in Rethymnon

Thought to be the cradle of Europe's first civilization, the UNESCO-listed Palace of Knossos is one of the most important ancient sites in Crete. Let an expert bring history to life as you explore the island's most-prized archaeological gem. This trip also includes free time in the resorts of Rethymnon, plus a tour of the Cretan capital, Heraklion. Andreas, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The Minoans were very advanced, and the Palace of Knossos showcases architectural techniques such as multi-storey buildings and a sophisticated drainage system that were ahead of their time.'You'll start the morning in Rethymnon's maze of colourful streets, where you can browse the shops, find a little cafe or head down to the harbour. Curving around the small bay, Rethymnon harbour is as pretty as it is old. The views of the Venetian-era Fortezza and out to sea are a delight. Next up is Crete's capital, Heraklion. Here, you'll enjoy a guided tour of the city's best bits, such as the Venetian lion fountain and the loggia. There'll be some free time to explore at your own pace, too.Last but by no means least, the last stop of the day is a guided visit of the Palace of Knossos. Admire treasures like the throne room, royal apartments, and the fabulous frescoes. The ancient frescoes are particularly impressive, depicting scenes of everyday life, religious rituals, and mythical creatures. Family tour to the mountains of Crete with Mythological Park

This action-packed day brings the essence of Crete to life for all the family. Discover Greek mythology as you explore scenic mountain trails on an off-road adventure leading to the Lassithi plateau. There's a chance to have a go at making ceramics and a visit to the Mythological Park, too. Katerina, one of our expert local guides, enthusiastically says, ‘Lassithi plateau is a personal favourite on this tour. You'll be greeted by the sight of dozens of windmills that dot the landscape. They were built in the 19th century to grind grain, and are now a symbol of the region.'Kick off on a trail which climbs into the mountains to reach the first stop at the Aposelimi dam. From here we'll make our way to a viewpoint where we can see across the Lassithi plateau, a high, fertile plain that legend states was the birthplace of Zeus.Rumbling down to the plateau, we'll head to a ceramics workshop and olive oil producer. It's a fun stop for the kids who will have plenty of time to have a go at making their own pottery creations. Next up is the Mythological park, where you'll find out all about ancient Greek myths - the special lighting and sound effects alongside the audio tour make the park enjoyable for all ages. Round off the day with a late lunch in a taverna, before calling in at the village of Krassi, which is famous for a 2,000-year old plane tree and has a natural spring water source.
