Ting at foretage sig på Schönbrunn-slottet
Fra jagtmarker for den hellige romerske kejser Maximilian II til overdådigt sommerresidens for Habsburg-slægten, Schönbrunn-slottet har en rig historie, der strækker gennem 300 år. Nu er det et berømt symbol på Wien og er byens topattraktion, og siden 1996 har dette overdådige barok-slot været opført som UNESCO Verdensarvssted.
Ud af de 1441 værelser er 40 i øjeblikket åbne for offentligheden og viser alt fra udsmykkede saloner til statslejlighederne i rokokostil og Kejser Franz Joseph og hans kone Kejserinde Elizabeths (aka Sisi) private gemakker. Du kan beundre det ekstravagante interiør, der har ændret sig meget lidt siden Kejserinde Maria Theresas regeringstid. Gå ikke glip historiske rum såsom Spejlsalen, hvor seks-årige Mozart spillede for den nævnte kejserinde i 1762.
Komplekset er også omgivet af enorme haver, der er en spadseretur værd. Som åbnet for offentligheden siden 1779 er de hjem for en række attraktioner inklusiv orangeriet, verdens ældste zoo, den herlige Gloriette på bakketoppen, og stedet med det misvisende navn 'romerske ruiner' (det er et have-element). Mens parken er gratis, kræver enkelte attraktioner indgangsbilletter. Slottet har også en tendens til at blive overfyldt om sommeren, så det er klogt at købe billetter online på forhånd.
