Make sure you tick off the biggest attractions during your holiday to Berlin with this comprehensive walking tour. Following the guide around the cityâs streets, youâll see whatâs left of the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate and so much more. Emilia, one of our expert local guides, says âevery guide who leads this tour is a native Berliner, meaning they can give you much more insight and info into the sights youâll see. Plus, theyâll paint a really vivid picture of what itâs like to live here.â
This walking tour covers a two-and-a-half-kilometre patch of Berlin, meaning youâll really get to grips with the cityâs mishmash of architecture styles on top of all the sightseeing. Speaking of sights, the most significant ones youâll visit are the remains of the Berlin Wall and the Brandenburg Gate. The former was built by the Soviet Union in 1961 and separated the capital into eastern and western districts until it was torn down in the 1990s. The remnants of whatâs left are all plastered in graffiti, and youâll hear about the mood of the cityâs two halves during the time it was split.
The Brandenburg Gate, meanwhile, is an 18th century Neoclassical monument that takes pride of place near the centre of the city. This giant pillared archway is the perfect backdrop for selfies â just make sure you get the horse-drawn chariot on top in frame. During your tour youâll also check out the Bebelplatz, a square in the Mitte district thatâs home to the Berline State Opera and St. Hedwigâs Cathedral â the latterâs over 250 years old.
