When you think of Egypt, what comes to mind first? It’s hard to imagine anything other than the astounding magnitude of the Pyramids of Giza and the monumental Great Sphinx of Giza. These archaeological wonders are found at the Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis or the Giza Plateau, approximately 13 km southwest of Cairo. Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979, the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx regularly draw in millions of curious tourists from around the world.
Egypt’s Pyramids of Giza are made up of 3 massive pyramids, the Pyramid of Menkaure, Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Khufu, the last also commonly being referred to simply as the Great Pyramid of Giza for its immense height. All were painstakingly built during the fourth dynasty of ancient Egypt for the ruling pharaohs at the time, hence their names. No one knows for sure exactly how they were built, but one thing’s for certain: the Pyramids of Giza continue to faithfully preserve the genuine essence of Egypt.
A veil of mystery also surrounds the towering Great Sphinx of Giza that stands guard over the tombs on the east side of the Giza pyramid complex. The world-famous limestone statue of a recumbent sphinx is one of the oldest, largest, and most recognisable sculptures in the world. Most believe the sculpture’s head is modelled after Egyptian pharaoh Khafre, although the nose was subsequently destroyed for unknown reasons. Nonetheless, the Great Sphinx remains a magnificent emblem of Egypt.

“Die Aktivitäten selbst waren super, jedoch wurden die Hin- und Rückflüge extrem schlecht kooridiniert. Am frühen Morgen fast 2h Wartezeit am Flughafen. Die Aktivitäten waren dann schon can um 16 Uhr abgeschlossen, der Rückflug war jedoch erst um 21 Uhr, obwohl es viele frühere Flüge gegeben hätte. Viel Zeit ging mit warten verloren, schade wenn man bedenkt, wie viel teuerer die Buchung mit TUI verglichen mit anderen Anbietern ausfällt.”
“Die Buchung im Voraus im Internet war einfach und verständlich. Wir hatten einen Guide (Hany) der sehr gut Deutsch sprach und über alles gut informiert war. Durch ihn wurde die Tour zu einem High Light. Schade an der Tour sind zwei Dinge. Kein Flug aus Marsa Alam und keine Info vorweg über Abflüge”
“Leider war der Guide vielmehr daran interessiert, uns ständig irgendetwas anzudrehen als zu erzählen. Er hat lediglich hin und wieder trockene Basisinfos erzählt, zu wenig und langweilig, teilweise direkt in der prallen Sonne. Sehr schade, wir haben uns sehr auf den Ausflug gefreut. Nun habe ich den Auflug nach Luxor mit TUI storniert und versuche es nun mit der Konkurrenz. An den Fahrern gab es allerdings nichts zu meckern, die haben ihre Sache gut gemacht.”
“Kairo selbst ist außer dem Museum keinen Besuch wert. Die Pyramiden sind schön anzusehen und auch die Gräber drumherum sind toll. Also so gesehen schon ein schöner Ausflug. Leider ist die Busfahrt hin und zurück nicht gut. Der Bus kaum Beinfreiheit und man sitzt nicht sehr gut, aber sehr gut klimatisiert. Zu beachten ist das es überall und jederzeit Leute gibt die dir etwas anbieten und Trinkgeld haben wollen. Außerdem ist bei dem Essen das Trinken nicht dabei und kostet auch wieder Geld...”
